Why We Need to Stop Hunting Animals

Nowadays, more and more people are becoming concerned about our environment, and all the living creatures that live on our Earth. One of the main focuses has been animals. While some people stubbornly remain convinced that animals are below us, and we can use them however we want, there is a growing number of people who are becoming concerned about animal welfare. A major issue concerning the rights of animals is hunting, of all animal species. This is a big issue, as no one has the right to kill another, no matter what species.
First of all, hunting can hurt the environment. When people hunt prey animals such as deer, moose, geese, ducks, and wild burros, it can hurt the population of predators. If people hunt predators, such as wolves, coyotes, foxes, and others, the prey will become overpopulated, and use up all of their food supply. No matter what species is hunted, it has a devastating effect on the surrounding environment.
Second of all, animals are living, breathing beings just like us. All animals, including fish, can feel pain. When they are shot, no matter the weapon, it causes extreme, prolonged suffering at the hands of a sadistic human being. Some animals are simply wounded, and escape to face a painful death at the mercy of starvation. Others only die after being shot multiple times. These dead and dying animals can leave behind young, most of whom will consequently die of starvation and dehydration, or will be killed by predators.
A very small percent of 'sport' hunters eat what they kill. Therefore, millions of animals die painful deaths every year for the sake of providing a depraved human being, who has nothing better to do then murder defenseless animals, with a sense of power.
Contrary to popular belief, hunting animals such as deer has no effect on the population, and the car accidents that supposedly come with a large population. In lots of areas designated for hunting, officials purposely keep the population high so that there will always be enough animals for hunters to kill. Consequently, hunting essentially makes the deer population go up! Also, nature has its own mechanisms to control the population of a species of animal. When there are too many animals for an area of land to support, there is not enough food to go around. When animals do not have the proper amount of food (not well-fed, but not starving) only a small amount of animals reproduce. Thereby, with the regular winter die-off and the reduced birth rate, the population goes down. Presto! No hunting needed!
Studies show that car accidents actually increase during hunting season, due to the deer being scared out of the woods by hunters. If hunters didn't scare the deer, the deer would peacefully stay in their own woods, and many lives would be saved, both human lives and the lives of deer.
Hunting is a very dangerous practice, not only to wild animals, but also to other animals and people living near hunting grounds. In the United States, there are dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries related to hunting each year. Besides the human casualties, pet goats, horses, dogs, cats, and cows are often mistaken for quarry and shot.
There is no excuse for killing any animal. Not tradition, not food, not recreation, not population control. Those are all justifications for murder. Hunting is a cruel and unnecessary practice that has no place in today's society. If you would like to help end hunting, you can post 'no hunting' signs in your area, join or form an anti-hunting group, and educate others about the barbarous practice called 'hunting.'
